VOA GAMELANDS  BEAUFORT CO. N.C.

This 3000 acre old Voice of America site was opened to the public in 2017 by the North Carolina Wildlife Agency. It is dedicated to licensed hunting and to birdwaching and perhaps other future outdoor activities.  For a full description of this site and some history, please go to this link . The site is home to many species of birds including the relatively rare Henslow’s Sparrow, which breeds here. The environment is primarily thickly weeded field with scrub oak and pine trees 15-25 feet tall.Birds that can be seen include Prairie Warblers, Northern Bobwhite, Blue Grosbeak , Kingbird. Yellow-bellied Chat, Indigo Bunting, Grasshopper Sparrow, Great Crested Flycatcher, Gray Catbird, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Goldfinch, and many others during migration. It is an excellent birding site and we are fortunate in N.C. to have it!!. The entrance to the area is at 1000 Cherry Rd.

This is open field and shade is rare. Use sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Bug spray is advised! For pictures of one of my birding trips here, go to this site.
