The pictures below are a good representation of typical residents here in mid-winter. Of particular interest were a Mute Swan, Common Goldeneye, Green-wing Teal, Common Moorhen, along with Cedar Waxwing, Snowy and Great Egrets, Lessor Yellowlegs, Bufflehead, and a Bonaparte Gull. If you have not visited this site, you should get it on your agenda. You will meet many fellow birders here year round. Enjoy the pics below.
Early this week, I had a chance to visit Pawleys Island, S.C. with Glyn. This is one of our favorite spots to visit for a variety of reasons. This is a summer beach destination that she visited many times in her teen years and holds many memories for her. For me, Huntington Beach State Park Is just a few miles up the road and is one of my favorite birding locations. I was able to spend a few hours each day trying to get a few pictures of the birds that are hanging out there in mid-winter. The beauty of this site is the diversity of habitat that supports a large variety of bird types, including hardwood/pine forest, freshwater ponds, beachfront, tidal marsh, along with a mile long jetty that extends into the Atlantic. The jetty provides access to many seabirds and sea ducks. The jetty was the only site I did not get to on this visit. For more description of these habitats click on the orange link above.
