Behind my house is a small lake surrounded by very tall pines. I have occasionally seen Red-tailed Hawks hanging out in the upper branches, probably hunting the adjacent open areas in the neighborhood and along the railroad tracks that are close by. Last week, I was arriving home from an unsuccessful photo trip . I got out of my car with my camera in hand, and out of habit glanced up at the trees to check for birds. A Red-tailed Hawk was perched on a bare branch in one of the pines. I immediately started taking a few pictures. Suddenly, a second Hawk(probably the mate) flew in and landed right beside the first. I was able to get a shot of the second one landing with its wings outstretched--what a lucky shot!! I proceeded to get as many shots as I could--eventually the first one flew away, and then a few minutes later, the second one left. I was able to photograph the entire process--sometimes birding at home is the most productive of all. See photos below taken in sequence as it all happened--
