A favorite place of mine to visit in the Raleigh area when I am visiting my son and his family is the Durant Nature Preserve (click link for the Home page on this site). I was last there on Oct. 6 and got many pictures of birds, insects, and flowers(see main page). But I was especially pleased to get a series of photos of a Green Anole shedding its skin. Like all reptiles they shed regularly, as often as every few months when young and growing fast, and less often as aging slows growth. I did not catch the shedding from the beginning, and the shots were taken over about a 45 minute time period. It was interesting that the lizard used the branches of the vine it was on to rub the skin off. it also would grab the skin in its mouth and pull it off and eat it!! This is not an event I had observed before in the wild--- Enjoy the photos below.
