The past week has finally given our area of eastern North Carolina weather that caan at least loosely be referred to as winter. We have had a few mornings with temperatures in the 30s. In the field, winter birds are becoming more abundant. They have been slow in arriving and I believe our warm weather here as well as north of us is responsible . As examples, I have seen very few Northern Harriers roaming our fields, and only one or two Hermit Thrushes, among others. Our more common woodpeckers, blackbird flocks, sparrows, towhees, and hawks appear to be in normal numbers. The past few days I have been able to get pics of some of these in our local fields. I am happy to see the colder weather at this Holiday time. Enjoy the pics below. SEE GALLERY BELOW. CLICK ON ANY PIC YO ENLARGE. USE SIDE ARROWS TO MOVE BACK AND FORTH.
