One species that seem omnipresent now are the Red-winged Blackbirds. They seem to be having a family reunion most days when all the moms, pops and fledglings are feeding, and are flying from bush to bush. There are several pics of this below. Other species well represented in the mix are the Grasshopper Sparrows, Blue Grosbeaks, Turkeys, Kingbirds, and thankfully, Northern Bobwhite, which have all but disappeared here in eastern North Carolina. They are quite plentiful here, where conditions for their breeding and safety are maximized. Their “Bob White” call can be heard all over! The pics below show some of all these species.
In July and August in The Field , there are several species of birds that depend on the cover and food supply that the large fields that make up this site provide. Most of the year’s crop of babies have fledged and are well on their way to independence. All are competing for space and food, so at times there seems to be some species on every other tall stalk. This makes for some interesting and easy photography, so it is a favorite time for me! One species that seem omnipresent now are the Red-winged Blackbirds.
