This beautiful natural preserve is owned and managed by the city of Raleigh, NC. It is comprised of 237 mixed pine/hardwood forest on moderately hilly land that includes two nice lakes. There are 5 miles of well kept trails through the wooded areas as well as along the lakesides. There are many activities for adults and children. The land and water habitat provides a rich home for critters of all kinds including woods birds and waterfowl, turtles, fish, flowers, amphibians, butterflies, dragonflies, and many other insects. I discovered this great birding/photography site while visiting my son and his family(two grandsons) who live in Raleigh. I am always looking for new sites to explore and to post on these pages. My visits here always bring new and varied sights. There are a good variety of birds, and lots of wildflowers and insects. My latest visit here was October 6, 2015. Below are some of the photos I captured on that visit.
